Grew up during the Pokemon mania of the 90s, now I share my love for these games through solo play-through videos that are inspired by the likes of Jrose11 and Mah Dry Bread.
Soloing Crystal isn't always monotonous
Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle, except held items
3. No glitches, exploits, or save states
4. No movepool evasion-boosting moves before level 100*
Rule details:
-- I make no attempt to have the exact same rule details between generations.
-- I am allowed to manipulate my starter
-- I play the game at 4x game speed
-- For fair comparisons my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
-- I am allowed to catch HM users - I can use all field moves
-- Evasion boosting is allowed if the move is not obtained from the Pokemon’s movepool. For example, using Mimic or Mirror Move to boost evasion is allowed.
-- Surge's trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
-- The bike is allowed in gen1 & 4, banned in gen2, and allowed only to bypass terrain in gen3
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
-- Items obtained with the ability Pickup can only be used if the starter obtained them
-- The footage is sped up & slowed down to match the pace of my narration
These Rule details apply only to generation 1:
-- All battle-mechanic glitches are allowed (glitches that occur outside of battle are banned)
-- In generation 1, I'm allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll
If you didn’t read these rules and left a comment. Thanks for helping with the algorithm.

Scott, when you said the run is easy after tate and Liza, does your software give you an explanation?Let's say you need lvl 50 to beat tate and Liza but you can beat the rest of the game if you were at lvl 48 and continued to level at minimum battles. Is that because of stats or something else? If it's stats, do vitamins make sense as a solution? If it's not stats does your software tell you the bottleneck?
6:11 I see what you did there.
Please tell me you’ll be making a NICE video to celebrate your new milestone of subscriptions! 😂
Love your work
How do you play this Pokémon game on pc and able to choose another Pokémon as a starter?
30:12 - A sheet of stainless steel would be dented up noticeably. Steel doesn't actually become fully hailproof until you get into the abrasion-resistant alloys, and even then you need plate thicknesses.
Holy shit I never noticed that Claydol's type combination makes it weak to literally the entire league and last gym leader except Drake.
3:11:29 Scott: Alright, maybe I am doing much better than I was last time no no No! NOOOOOOOOO!
Dragonite base speed: 80 Tyranitar base speed: 61 Obviously Dragonite is faster. All you had to do was look on Bulbapedia, dummy.
how much time did the shiny sparkling add over the run for each battle do you know that ?😅
pokemon yellow legacy aka how to code for almost 2 hours
<3
Scott you’re a Goomba :)
I vote for your next April fools video to be a “can I beat emerald at 4x speed only riding the Mach bike?” challenge!
I always imagined you as like 6’4” and a gentle giant lmao
Is there a reason Scott never registers his repels to reuse them with a single button press?
Can you do that? I thought they introduced the feature to use another repel in gen5…
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon No. That’s a B2W2 Quality of Life feature.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I was going to double check, but I lost my charger for my old gameboy. Bulbapedia says only key items, I guess I misremembered things.
Is there a reason people never confirm "facts" before they post them?
@@ggw1776for starters you're the only one that claimed it to be a fact
Pyramid, that was my manectric's nickname XD
7:23 I see what you did there.
Seeing as you don't max the EVs on a playthrough I think getting the macho brace and getting the 1600 to 1700 to aquire it might be beneficial in some playthroughs as you can use it as little as much as necessary to get the desired EVs might be beneficial for mons that need extra exp to level or are naturally fast as jirachi with base 100 and a hindering speed natire was 2x the speed of opposing trainers
That’s a good idea. Especially once I get a better sense of which trainers to fight for specific yields. It’ll be difficult to use well in initial runs but it might lead to major improvements for second runs, especially when damage ranges are close.
Your foe’s weak! Get’m, DAD!
Didn’t actually use the Dream Eater tutor…
I love watching Scott's video as he's more technical than a speed runner and more informational than a general for fun player... his analysis into tate and lysa double battle gave me more insite about knowing moves and their interactions than imagination of my own playset
It is sincerely great that he is single-handedly proving what a Pokémon is best at in the game they are in.
Scott, would reducing the massive amount of super repels make it so you don't have to sell secret power for hidden power?? Edit: changed removing to reducing for clarity
Munchlax could benefit from trick room. And it would be funny to see it have 0 speed IV
2025 we will learn whether you stay being No-Bike Noonan
Great video! I don't know if it can be of any help but at 36:29 the espeon has a displayed speed stat of 142 and still outspeeds so maybe the stat table isn't completely right^^
Wait, I’m confused. Machamp has 132, Espeon has 142 and it moves first… that is what the stat table suggests would happen… Also the stats are pulled from RAM in real-time, so they are the values the game is storing for each Pokémon, not collected / calculated data that I curated.
E: Ah, i see you mention this Would you ever consider using a flying type as your second vs tate and liza? It would guarantee that the claydol doesnt use EQ first turn iirc (it sees a kill on the other guy, and that kill is not with EQ). Its definitely a strong technique but.... youre pushing the boundaries of what you can do with party pokemon. Still, its one of those situations where there is no neutral decision
Man if only bodyslam was available in this one, 60% paralysis chance goes nuts. Tho i guess the big threats you face you really need the paralysis first turn, so only a 15% chance to get. And alas, Dunsparce, the other Serene Grace mon, doesnt gwt headbutt except by breeding! No great uses for it in a solo run :/
Erika's art is so cute ❤
1:22:12 Eggs should be Yoshi, egg themed
I think Future Sight has niche utility in a solo run. Many times you can end up unable to two hit an opponent before they use a potion. Maybe Future Sight could be used while the opponent is at full health so that it finishes them off before healing can occur. Otherwise I would agree it is generally lackluster.
Could be used on notable trainers that protect or offer set up material like protect dusclops or protect shelgon protect pellipper and with typeless damage and 120 base power doesn't matter what they switch in as long as something isn't a more valuable moveslot
29:50 THIS is why I love Hoenn as a map. Yes, there’s a lot of backtracking before fly. That’s the point, the better you know the map, the better you are able to navigate it, and finding the best route for any given situation is non-trivial.
People hate ads for three reasons: they waste time, interrupt the viewing experience and there is absolutely zero quality control. You get absolutely obnoxios ads which scream into your ear, are scams some of which might cause damage if you just click on them, or are basically porn, which drives even more people to use adblocker.
I never knew just how terrible Bide was until I learned about the Disable interaction. Truly incredible.
Gen 4 always brings the most fun challenges for me. I’m interested to foresight strats. Plus machop is one of my favorites so I’m glad the line gets some love(MACHOKE SHINY THO)
If you're depositing HM users into the PC anyways, wouldn't it be faster to deposit and withdraw your main Pokemon to heal it?
18:00 aka, the father/brother/cousin/former room-mate of Misty's Pecking Goldeen trainer.
I can't help but wonder if the Rash nature harmed you. A lot of those ranges at the end like with Salamence just looked scary. At the very least I don't think Rash was helpful at all, as Roselia at no point uses physical attacks. Great runs, it does really good considering it's movepool isn't particularly deep, but that's the curse of a Grass-type I suppose.
Pinsir
11:50 I would quit youtube cold turkey if I started seeing ads again
Agreed. And the "creators need support" angle doesn't work when you actually do the math. Ads only pay out if the viewer watches at least 30 seconds. It varies, but a single ad view pays out on average, in the ballpark of $.02. One hour of watching ads is at most 60*60/30 ads, or 120 ads, assuming perfect efficiency. At $.02 per ad, that's $2.4 per hour. At best. The average minimum wage for an american is $11.80 (federal is lower, but many states have a higher minimum). 2.40/11.80 is about .20, or 20%. Watching ads is functionally equivalent to selling your time for 1/5th of minimum wage. Yes, I'm assuming the viewer is an American for these calculations. Frankly, given differences between countries in terms of minimum wage and in terms of what youtube pays for ad views, that's skewing things in favor of ads, it's generally worse if you look at most other countries. If someone wants to watch ads for whatever reason, fine, their choice. But you can't really act as though people are obligated to sell their time, particularly at such a pathetic rate. But if you just want to support creators, get an adblocker and donate even a small amount to a creator's patreon, and you'll both be better off.
Wait... for forcing encounters on gen 4, why not just use a wild encounter AR code? You don't need the disassembly for that.
Ludicolo is my sleep paralysis demon. His immense joy frightens me.
The youtube subscription thing. I have subscribed forever and the extra functions is very useful. Download videos or songs for roadtrips since in rural west you have no signal at all. Plus having the background play so you can listen while doing other things is very useful too. Plus ad-free music and whatnot
use youtube v@nced to get all that for free. i censored myself since they'll probably delete this comment otherwise
I really love your content, I just got back from an exhausting day at work, and seeing that there was a live stream from you really gave me a boost when I got home
So for next year's Father's Day video, you could do Blastoise Dad (that's a meme I've seen around) and it has some silly "dad inspired" move set like Rest (because Dads are always tired), Skull Bash (because Dads get frustrated and hit their heads on the wall), Surf, and other fun stuff.
19:33 poor bidoof ;-;
Will be back for Heracross vs Pinsir
Can you do a swellow Pokemon emerald playthrough pls u didn't do it yet
I think Pinsir should have been named Perry. We missed the golden opportunity to see Harry (the Heracross) vs Perry (the Pinsir) in the Versus video.
